An almost sane Instant Messaging service that is meant to be decentralised by the standard, even though IRC also can just be decentralised. Only difference is the new toy called OMEMO which doesn't even work that much to play with. Unfortunately the only FOSS protocol for IM, there are others, but they aren't as open as XMPP.
